Aha succeeded by Djer as Pharaoh of Egypt

3053 BC, December 31, Tuesday —Egypt:

Aha was succeeded as Pharaoh of Egypt by his son, Djer.

The main work of his life was consolidating Upper and Lower Egypt into a single, unified kingdom. For one example, he founded a temple to Neith, the goddess of the city of Sais in the northern part of Egypt, to show solidarity with the northern Egyptians.

In his last two years of life, he conducted the biennial royal tour of inspection and created a figure of the god Anubis, the jackal-headed god of mummification.

Aha was laid to rest at Abydos.
